• Clonidine's alpha-2 agonism explains why it is discussed for adrenergic physical symptoms and sleep initiation.

Limits, risks, and missing evidence

• Sedation does not guarantee longer or better sleep, and it can cause hypotension, bradycardia, dry mouth, next-day impairment, and rebound hypertension.
• Combining with beta-blockers, sedatives, antihistamines, trazodone, or other antihypertensives can compound hemodynamic and CNS risk.
• Adult chronic-insomnia evidence is weak compared with purpose-built insomnia treatments.
